πŸ•ŠοΈ Honouring Lincoln Alexander πŸ•ŠοΈ

The Honourable Lincoln Alexander (affectionately known as β€˜Linc’) was a trailblazing public servant, lawyer, civil rights activist, labour minister and race relations advocate. Born in Toronto on January 22st 1922 to Caribbean immigrants, he learned at a young age that life is not fair and that education was the powerful equalizer in a society that was not designed for people who looked like him.

Alexander excelled and paved the way for future Black leaders in Canada. He was the first Black Canadian to serve as a Member of Parliament, Cabinet minister and Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario. A humble man of conviction who deeply loved his country, he dedicated his life to fighting for equal rights through tolerance and inclusivity in Canada, including chairing the Canadian Race Relations Foundation.

The Standard acknowledges his extraordinary legacy that left and indelible mark on so many - especially people of colour.

We see you Linc and are privileged to stand on your shoulders as we continue to strive for the greater mission of racial equity πŸ™πŸΎ
